Cyber-shot Camera - The power will not turn on

This article only applies to Cyber-shot camera. For Alpha camera, refer to the power will not turn on article.

To troubleshoot the camera, follow these steps and check its status after each one:

Check the battery condition. 

 Ensure the battery terminals are clean, as dirty terminals can prevent proper charging.

Wipe away dust with a dry cloth or cotton swab without touching the terminals with your hands or metals. The pictures below are comparisons of clean and dirty terminals.

NOTE: If the CHARGE lamp does not light or blink while charging, the terminals may be dirty.  

Insert the battery correctly so its contacts touch the camera's contacts. 

NOTE: If the CHARGE lamp does not light or blink while charging, the terminals may be dirty. Wipe the dust away with a dry cloth or cotton swab. Do not touch the terminals with your hands or metals.

If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.

If the camera turns on but is exhibiting a different issue, check any of the following:

• The lens is stuck and will not open, retract, or extend
• The message Turn the power off and on again is displayed
• How to reset a camera back to original factory settings
