Can I use my WF-1000XM6 earbuds to record audio with a camera?
Yes. You can use the microphones in your WF-1000XM6 earbuds to record audio with a camera by connecting the earbuds to a Sony's ECM-W5 wireless microphone or ECM-W5R wireless receiver.
You can also use these features, depending on your connection mode and earbuds’ software version:
- Audio monitoring: Listen to the audio as you record.
- Binaural recording: Capture sound in a way that recreates how you hear it with both ears, giving the recording a sense of space.
What do I need to check before recording?
Select LE Audio priority mode
Before connecting your WF-1000XM6 earbuds to the receiver, open the Sony | Sound Connect app and switch the earbuds to LE Audio priority mode. This mode is required for audio monitoring and binaural recording.
If you use Classic Audio mode, you can still record audio using the earbuds’ microphone, but only in mono (single-channel audio). Audio monitoring and binaural recording are not available in this mode.
Update the earbuds for binaural recording
Binaural recording requires WF-1000XM6 software version 2.0.5 or later.
If your earbuds have an earlier software version, update them to the latest version before using this feature.
Which earbud features are unavailable when using the receiver?
With WF-1000XM6 software version 2.0.5 or later, the following limitations apply to improve the recording experience:
- Connection to two devices at once: While the earbuds are connected to the receiver, you cannot use multipoint connection, which normally lets you connect to two devices simultaneously.
- Touch control sounds: While the earbuds are connected to the receiver and recording with a camera, you will not hear the sounds that normally play when you use the touch controls.
- Switching listening modes: While the earbuds are connected to the receiver and recording with a camera, you cannot switch listening modes using the touch controls.
