Open Gate and other image scan modes

The FX5 offers full-frame Open Gate recording — a first in the Cinema Line FX series. With 5K up to 120 fps (FF 3:2), 4K up to 240 fps (FF crop) and more, it gives you the freedom to adjust framing, speed and workflow to realise even the most ambitious vision.

Image of the codec mode menu, with X-OCN LT selected.

Internal X-OCN compressed RAW video recording

Capture 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN internally, eliminating the need for an external RAW data recorder. With LT, C1 and C2 codecs, you can balance image quality, file size and RAW workflow flexibility to suit the production.

Example image of a person opening curtains to bright daylight streaming through a large window.

Wide 15+ stop latitude with low noise

Wide 15+ stop latitude helps capture highlight and shadow detail with smooth, natural gradation. Low shadow noise preserves clarity, texture and atmosphere, so scenes retain a more convincing sense of depth and mood while giving you footage that is easier and more flexible to grade.

Example image of a vintage red car parked at an old gas station at night, next to an illuminated neon diner sign.

Three Base ISO settings for effective noise control in any environment

Three Base ISO settings - a standard ISO 800, a mid-sensitivity ISO 4000, and a high-sensitivity ISO 12800 for low light - are available to match your shooting environment. Capture clean shadows and wide latitude across varied lighting conditions, for consistently stunning clarity.

Usage image of a videographer operating an FX5 camera in a dimly lit room, filming a person silhouetted by a sunlit window.

Dual Gain Shooting debuts in the Cinema Line FX camera series

Dual Gain Shooting maximises latitude while reducing noise to enhance shadow details. Making full use of the sensor’s capability, it delivers smooth, natural gradients for greater editing flexibility.

Image of the FX5 camera settings screen showing frame rate options, with 240 fps selected.

High-frame-rate capture, including 5K at up to 120 fps

High frame rates open up striking slow-motion possibilities. The FX5 records up to 5K at 120 fps and 4K at 240 fps, giving creators the power to capture fast-paced action with impressive detail and clarity — ideal for everything from cinematic storytelling to sharp sports and documentary footage.
