Why is Auto Focus not working?

Article ID:407454(modified 23 Feb 2011)

Applicable Models

A700 Carl Zeiss Kit, DSLR-A700, DSLR-A700K, DSLR-A700P

Question

Auto Focus (AF) does not work when the mode dial is set to P, A, S, or M exposure modes.

Answer

This will occur if both the AF w/Shutter and the Eye-Start AF options are both set to Off in the menu. When these two options are turned off, AF only operates in AUTO and the scene selection modes. The camera does not focus and the focus indicator does not appear in the viewfinder when using the Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, or Manual exposure modes. This is normal operation. To enable AF in all modes again, set the AF w/Shutter and the Eye-Start AF options to On.

Note: If further information is required for how to make the setting changes in the camera menu, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product.
