Capture 6.1 Mega Pixels Still Images and More Colours with Sony’s New HD Handycam® Camcorders
Sony introduces the latest range of 1080i high-definition Handycam® camcorders with “x.v.Colour”, including two AVCHD camcorders (HDR-UX7 and HDR-UX5) that record videos on 8cm DVD disc media. These new Handycam® models are the first camcorders compliant with “xvYCC”, the international standard for wide colour space within moving images. Endorsed by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), “xvYCC” is a colour range standard with approximately twice that of conventional standards (sRGB).
When filming video with a camcorder that adopts “x.v.Colour” and playing it on an “x.v.Colour” compliant TV, consumers will be able to enjoy a much wider range of colour.
Natural colours such as the brilliant colours of flowers and the turquoise blue of the sea can be faithfully reproduced. With the new Enhanced Imaging Processor and Sony’s original ClearVid CMOS Sensor, higher end models (including HDR-UX7) can shoot up to 6.1 mega pixels of still images like a digital camera. Advantages of these new camcorders include the Super SteadyShot™ Optical Image Stabilization technology for stable videos and dual recording function for high precision still images of up to 4.6 mega pixels in video mode.
“As the leader in HD camcorders, Sony continues to raise the standard of our Handycam® camcorders. We are the first to develop camcorders to meet the international standard of “xvYCC” colour range, providing consumers with more vivid and deeper colours. We want to enhance their recording and viewing experience in 1080i high-definition video by incorporating useful features such as the Super SteadyShot™ optical image stabilisation and providing more options in various media to suit their needs. Thanks to the improved ClearVid™ CMOS sensor and the Enhanced Imaging Processor which process huge amounts of pixel data at high speed, the HDR-UX7 can record up to 6.1 mega pixels high-quality still images” said Mr.Taku Taguchi, General Manager of Product Marketing Division, Sony Malaysia.
New additional features in this range of Handycam® camcorders include the Smooth Slow Recording with audio function, minimum illumination (at 2 Lux) and high stamina “ActiFORCE” H series battery that can shoot up to 5 to 7 hours of non-stop videos
HDR-UX7 and HDR-UX5 – AVCHD video recording on 8cm DVD disc media
The higher end model, HDR-UX7 employs Super SteadyShot™ optical image stabilisation, which uses a sensor to detect camera shake and a lens that is controlled to compensate for the vibration. This method efficiently reduces blur and allows stable shooting for both video and still images. Smaller and lighter compared to the predecessor HDR-UX1, its generous 3.5” Wide Clear Photo LCD plus makes viewing of images easy and crisp.
Both the HDR-UX7 and HDR-UX5 employ the Dolby Digital 5.1 creator to record surrounding sounds to provide a real scenario. The dual recording function allows still images to be recorded up to 4.6 mega pixels and 2.3 mega pixels with HDR-UX7 and HDR-UX5 respectively during video recording. The convenient HDMI connectivity enables video and audio to be played on TVs and computers with just 1 cable. The HDR-UX7 and HDR-UX5 will be available from April 2007.
