The AF area is yellow even when the subject is not in focus when using the AF Range Control.

The AF area is displayed in yellow to indicate that the subject is located within the AF range you set. Also, all AF areas turn yellow when the AF Range Control function is set from the nearest focusing distance to infinity or when the subject overlaps with all points of the assist area in the range that you set.

When you press the shutter button half-way down the camera auto focuses on your subject and the AF area where the focus has been confirmed turns green.
