A/D Converter
A device which converts analog signals into digital signals.

A/V inputs
Often used to quickly connect a DVD player, videogame console, or camcorder, these three connectors can be seen on the back or front of almost every TV: one for video (yellow) and two for stereo audio (either red and black or red and white). The yellow plug is called 'composite video.'

A/V Remote Commander
To confirm Sony receivers position as the ideal A/V control centre, most models are supplied with a Sony A/V Remote Commander. This single remote control will control most Sony CD players, tape decks, VHS VCRs, DVD players, Sony TVs and key receiver functions. There is one set of transport keys (Play, Rew, etc), which change to the appropriate source input and activate that source.

A/V Stereo
Trinitron AV Stereo Televisions feature a mono tuner and are equipped with a stereo amplifier which allows connection of a NICAM Stereo VCR for enjoyment of stereo broadcasts and pre-recorded software.

Accessory Shoe

Sony’s exclusive AccuPower meter displays the battery time remaining in minutes, in either the viewfinder or on the LCD screen


Active Interface Shoe

Provides a location directly on the camcorder to which one may add optional accessories, such as lights, flashes and microphones, while providing power and two way communication with those accessories.


Active scan lines
This describes the tiny rows of pixels on a television screen. There are typically 480 lines on an analog NTSC TV screen and 1,080 lines on a Hi-scan screen. The number of active scan lines provides a good initial test for a screen's clarity, called its 'native resolution.'

Advanced Anti-Dust Protection

Protecting the sensor from exposure each time lenses are changed, the camera introduces two anti-dust measures.  Firstly, the low pass filter coving the CCD has been treated with an Anti-Dust Coating to minimise static charge build-up, reducing the attraction of dust.  For added protection, the camera activates an Anti-Vibration function each time the camera is powered on or off.  This rapid movement of the CCD dislodges dust particles that may have settled on the CCD surface


Advanced Contrast Enhancer

By reproducing fine levels of gradation and dynamically controlling the contrast of every image, the Advanced Contrast Enhancer delivers superior light, mid and dark tones in every scene. Now you can enjoy those deep dark scenes without sacrificing the brightness of the lighter elements.


Advanced Electronic Shock Protection
The advanced ESP audio system features a 4MB buffer IC that provides a 12 second high-speed buffer memory to ensure continuous music playback regardless of excessive vibrations.

Advanced HAD
The Advanced Hole Accumulation Diode (HAD) CCD signal processing system provides brilliant results even in low-light situations. This is possible because it has greater luminance sensitivity and a wider dynamic range is which drastically improves the signal to noise ration. This advantage is especially obvious for natural evening scenes or indoor events.

Advanced Intelligent Auto Setup

At the touch of a button, the projector powers and prepares for immediate presentations. The lens Cover automatically opens, and the Auto tilt adjuster raises to its previous height. Then the picture corrects itself using auto keystone correction and APA. Auto input search automatically chooses and displays the signal.


Advanced Pulse D/A Converter
When more pulses are output in a given time, the precision of the music waveform is increased. This feature ensures an extremely high pulse density. The theoretical dynamic range of this system is a very high 131dB. The sound produced is more expressive and transparent.
