Typhoon Haiyan Relief Effort

As part of Sony’s continuous commitment to the community, Sony companies in Malaysia joint hands to collect relief funds in the light of Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Phillipines end of 2013. A cheque handover ceremony was held at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre at Embassy of Philippines in Malaysia in December 2013.

A total sum of RM28,000 (USD 8,701.06) was handed over to Mr. Medardo Macaraig, Consul General at the Embassy by Mr. Tatsuya Tamura, Managing Director of SSCSM representing Sony companies in Malaysia.

When Typhoon Haiyan hit Philippines in early November, Sony Group immediately initiated a worldwide employee donation efforts. As usual, the employee donation will be match dollar for dollar by the company.

Unique Hands-On Science Experience at Sony Science Program 2013

In October 2013, Sony Companies in Malaysia hosted its 3rd Annual Sony Science Program – “Make your own IC recorder” Workshop for 10 government primary schools from Hulu Langat district.

The 1-day Program benefited a total of 40 students, aged between 11 & 12 years old, who were joined by their teachers for the IC recorder making session and also enjoyed a factory tour to the Sony TV and Blu Ray manufacturing site at Sony EMCS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in Bangi where the Program was also held.

About 50 Sony management and staff participated as volunteers in this Program. Nurturing the power of science and creativity in young children encourages them to be innovative. The Sony Science Program aims to help children nurture creativity and invent new technology. Since its inception in Malaysia in 2011, the Program has benefited more than 300 students.

Sony Launches Annual Book Donation Drive in Malaysia for South African Students

Everyday colourful mobile library vehicles travel to remote villages in South Africa bringing books to 600 different schools. This year, for the second time, Sony Malaysia together with other Sony companies in Malaysia continue to champion efforts towards enhancing the lives of these children through the global annual South Africa Mobile Library Project.

. In 2013, a total of 650 books were donated by employees of Sony companies in Malaysia, contributing to the grand total of over 30,000 books donated by Sony around the world.
